1. Soft T-Shirt
shaking off everything that stuck around for way too long  running ‘round while the sun beats down

and there’s your favorite song

and I can’t withstand the need to hold your hand

your t-shirt’s soft and it’s coming off

city views with so much to do

I wanna do it with you

I wanna do it all with you (GO!)

clap your hands if you’re feeling something

ANYTHING

anything at all

shaking off everything that stuck around for way too long

4. Elephants
all this talk of death

like we don’t want to think about it

and all the elephants in the room

raised their trunks in salute

another August trying to stay focused

and it’s gotta get better soon

and in the end we laughed

said “See you later!”  (I hope to see you later)

and in the car we cried

pressed heads to shoulders

so thankful for getting older

I wanna get older

we all keep waking up

but never quite enough

one foot out the door with my back on the floor

my head keeps getting fuzzy

picking at scars that haven’t touched me YET

and it’s gotta get better soon

I hold onto this for reasons

that I don’t understand

just know sometimes it comes in handy

sometimes it’s all i can

every day is a play to leave all that behind

and i wonder where we’re headed

I wonder what we’ll find

and in the end we laughed

said “See you later!” (I hope to see you later)

and in the car we cried

pressed heads to shoulders

so thankful for getting older

I wanna get older

2. Trout
I’ve got a bad case of always taking the bait

and I can’t seem to shake you off

no, I can’t seem to shake you off |

you’ve got me on the hook

taking first, fifths, and sevenths looks

dangling like a little trout

there must be some way out

I have got to get out

you’ve got the greatest taste

not one thing is going to waste

and this is not good for me

no, this is not good for me

you’ve got me on the hook

taking first, fifths, and sevenths looks

dangling like a little trout

there must be some way out

I have got to get out

oh, what a mess

gasping for breath

over my head

you’ve got me fed up

there must be some way out

3. The Clown
everyone forgave you

they let you walk around

now what am I supposed to do

but be the clown?

I smile, wave, put makeup on my face

there’s never a dull moment since you left me all alone

and I’m so grateful for it

I’ll dance around and show it

everyone is tired of hashing out the detail

everyone is tired

but we’re ready to admit to things setting sail

so start clipping the wires

and smile, wave, put makeup on your face

there’s never a dull moment since you left me all alone

and I’m so grateful for it

I’ll dance around and show it

well I’ve always been the one to break

like a wave being carried away

but I’m told I should hold on as hard as I can

and never let it go

qnd smile, wave, put makeup on my face

no, there’s never a dull moment since you left me all alone

and I’m so grateful for it

I’ll dance around and show it

10. Hoodie
I looked like shit and wore my hoodie

the one from the bar

where you told me you loved me

and we held hands walking

down our neighborhood streets

and i’d never seen so much beauty

hands on skin
feel it all connect

reach out again

leave me a wreck

here in my hoodie

5. Missing Parts
sometimes I wonder what it would be like

it’s not something i’ll ever experience in my life it’s nothing that i ever wanted

it’s more a case of fear of missing out

cast out with the other gals

our missing parts keep us to ourselves

when conversations turn to what we can’t speak to

sorry we don’t wanna bum you out

dancing ‘round the freedom that it brings

I spend my time on different experiences

this is what i love about my life

oh, really what am I missing?

cast out with the other gals

our missing parts keep us to ourselves

when conversations turn to what we can’t speak to

sorry we don’t wanna bum you out

seeing it through other people’s eyes

they all think we’re lying to ourselves

so we’re  cast out with the other gals

our missing parts keep us to ourselves

when conversations turn to what we can’t speak to

sorry we don’t wanna bum you out

6. My Body
my body is taking it out on me

I fall apart so easily

and i can’t help but recognize

it’s me behind these eyes

my body is mine and mine alone

get to say who makes it kick and moan

and i can’t help but recognize

all these people trying to take what’s mine

iit’s a sorry state

it’s a work of art

it’s a blessed mess

it’s a wonder why

my body will leave me someday

I I already see there’s signs of decay

my body is all it can be

I look and that’s what i see

and i can’t help but recognize

it’s me behind these eyes

9. Chicago
driving down to Chicago

where else would we go for a quick getaway? the landscape is ever expanding

it’s sort of relaxing

it’s sort of a drag

but we’re moving so fast

the drag, it doesn’t last

the grey turns to green

it’s the impossible things

that keep floating by

the earth turns to sky

and we keep driving

we keep driving

down

down to Chicago

I’ll go where you go

I’ll stay where you stay

8. One Last Look Back
we both know it wasn’t the first time

somebody else’s husband tried to warn me

about all your little phone calls

and all your fucking coffee meet-ups

and I believed you when you told me that he was so unhinged

and though i had suspicions in my gut

I shoved them down and kept them hid

and now we’re living our new lives

I’ve got my new guy and you’ve got your new wife

and i’ve got years of anxiety to deal with that you helped to create

but I’ve got ways of looking inward

I know you’ll never relate

I know you thought you were really clever

I know you thought it was all okay

you wrote it all down in front of me what you can’t say to my face

I read it all when it was over

you crossed all the Ts, dotted the Is

on how you congratulated me backstage

right after giving her a kiss goodnight

and now we’re living our new lives

I’ve got my new guy and you’ve got your new wife

and i’ve got years of anxiety to deal with that you helped to create

but I’ve got ways of looking inward

I know you’ll never relate

did you ever think of me on the streets of New Orleans?

did you ever wish me dead to make it easier for you in bed?

and now we’re living our new lives

I’ve got my new guy and you’ve got your new wife

and i’ve got years of anxiety to deal with that you helped to create

but I’ve got ways of looking inward

I know you’ll never relate

7. Awkward
I am awkward away from you

fighting for the vision of others to see me as you do and I will pause in my speech to correct my teeth thinking is this how you see me?

iis this how you see me?

twisting my hair in my fingers

is this what i do that gets your gaze to linger?

it’s the subtle seduction of the slightest of curls unfurling all my truths

that I don’t know what I’m doing

bending the light

hit the marks just right

shadows fall

do you see it all?

I am awkward away from you

looming larger than life, yet always out of view

face flushed in crimson

I’m sure that i’m the vision

how do I see the way you see me?
